The nearest airport is Egilsstaðir (EGS), approximately 75 km away — about 1 hour by car on Route 1. Car rental is available at the airport. From Reykjavík the drive is approximately 7 hours via the Ring Road, or you can fly to Egilsstaðir and drive from there.

Is there public transport to Breiðdalsvík?

Strætó bus service 62 runs between Höfn and Egilsstaðir via Breiðdalsvík. Schedules are limited — check straeto.is for current timetables. A rental car gives you far more flexibility for exploring the East Fjords.
